Gail Alfar provides a Transcript of exclusive 23-minute interview with Giga Berlin plant manager André Thierig, and Elon Musk

Full Transcript: Elon Musk on Moon Factories, TSLA Hold, Cybercab/Optimus at Giga Berlin

In this exclusive 23-minute interview with Giga Berlin plant manager André Thierig, Elon Musk reveals Tesla’s plans, including Cybercab & Optimus production in Europe, Full Self-Driving launching in the Netherlands on March 20, and his bold prediction of “Tesla factories on the moon” and the now-viral line: “Hold on to your TSLA stock… it’s going to be worth a lot!”

André Thierig: Welcome, Elon, and thanks for taking the time. I really understand that time is precious. There are a ton of things to do to build a world of amazing abundance. I can hardly imagine what is on your mind — SpaceX, Starlink, AI, safe AI for the future, autopilot, so many things. But what is in your view still exciting about Tesla and why?

Elon Musk in the lobby at Tesla Giga Texas, February, 2026
Elon Musk in the lobby at Tesla Giga Texas, February, 2026

Elon Musk: Well, I think Tesla is one of the most exciting companies in the world. It is perhaps the most exciting, but Tesla and SpaceX are the two most exciting companies. We are obviously expanding production and making more cars. We are going to roll out Tesla Full Self-Driving, which is really an AI-driven car. It’s AI software that drives the car, just by looking, like a human does. Tesla has the most advanced real-world AI and hopefully it will be approved soon in Europe. We were told by the authorities that it will be approved on March 20th in the Netherlands. I think people in Europe are going to be pretty blown away by how good the Tesla car AI is. This year it will be the case that from a technical standpoint you will be able to fall asleep in the Tesla and wake up at your destination. That is very exciting.

We have the Optimus program, which is going to be the first humanoid robot. Sometimes people ask what it would be used for. Who would not want their own personal C-3PO or R2-D2? Optimus can take care of your kids, walk the dog, or take care of elderly parents. Well, Optimus can do those things. That is very exciting. We have started production of the Tesla Cybercab here at Giga Texas and we will go to volume production in April.

If things go well, we would probably manufacture Cybercab in Europe and also manufacture Optimus in Europe. We have the Tesla Semi heavy truck that will be coming to Europe hopefully next year. There are so many things happening, it’s a long list!

Oh, and battery cell production… we are going to start making battery cells at Giga Berlin. We have the Tesla lithium refinery that started up in Texas and the Tesla nickel cathode refinery that started up in Austin. This year, there are a tremendous number of things happening. We have five factories starting volume production this year, five major production lines. We look forward to extending that to Europe as well.

Tesla’s Vision for the Next 10–20 Years: Factories on the Moon!

André Thierig: Tesla has done nothing less than really transforming a whole industry. Without Tesla taking that brave step to electrify mobility, the industry would not be where it is today. What would you want people to say about Tesla in 10 or 20 years from now?

Elon Musk: In 20 years, I would say Tesla has factories on the moon, actually!. I see a very prosperous future for Tesla. It is difficult to predict anything in 20 years, but if you look 5 to 10 years ahead, Tesla has an extremely bright future. I would say, hold on to your Tesla stock, it is going to be worth a lot, I think, that’s my bet!

André Thierig: Coming back to the present, you are always very well informed. If you look at the European industry, especially the automotive sector or even the German industry, what do you think about it? What do you believe are the main reasons for their current state?

Elon Musk on the European Automotive Industry

Elon Musk: I think there has not been enough innovation. Automotive innovation has been relatively low, the cars being produced are very much like the cars produced five years ago. There are not big differences. For 20-plus years I have said the automotive industry needs to go toward electrification. This would be true even without environmental concerns. An electric vehicle is a fundamentally better architecture than a gasoline combustion vehicle. It is much simpler, more efficient, quieter, and there is no pollution within cities. All ground transport should be electric. And I think all ships and airplanes should be electric.

The automotive industry has strongly resisted electrification and dragged its feet, and they have had to be pushed there by government. Whenever they have had the opportunity to reduce making electric vehicles, they’ve done so. This is not a good strategy. It doesn’t make sense.

Making vehicles autonomous is critical. I think about 10 years ago I said that in the future, any vehicle that is not electric and autonomous… like if you are riding in a vehicle that you have to drive yourself and it’s gasoline powered, it will be like riding a horse and using a flip phone. Which is to say that there are still some people that ride horses. It’s just rare. And some people somewhere are still using flip phones, but there aren’t many, and it’s going to be a niche thing. So, the future does not contain combustion vehicles, and there will be very few vehicles that are not autonomous. The future is autonomous electric vehicles. And so, if the automotive industry does not move in that direction, they will be left out.

André Thierig: So it doesn’t really sound like we could be learning much from legacy auto makers…and I guess we really should be focusing on what ourselves, or what we believe the future looks like, right?

Elon Musk: Yes, well, you can always learn something from some competitor. But strategically, they are just headed in the direction of the dinosaurs. So they are not headed to a good place. You know, dinosaurs are not around anymore. We’re certainly going down a different path. Like I said, electric and autonomous… to me it’s been blindingly obvious for 20-plus years. What I found with competitors in the automotive industry is, it’s not that they are going to steal our ideas. You can’t cram a good idea down their throat. Like if you say, “you must take this good idea!” They won’t steal our ideas, because you cannot even force-feed them our good ideas. That’s my experience. So we need to do what’s logical, what’s sensible. You know, at Tesla we’re essentially creating the future. And it’s a good future!

André Thierig: We are building the future, they just build cars!

Elon Musk: Yes. It’s a good future, it’s a future with electric vehicles that don’t emit poison gas, literally. They’re quiet, efficient, and autonomous. Like I said, instead of being stuck in traffic driving through busy roads, people sometimes fall asleep or have a medical emergency. And if you’re driving yourself on the Autobahn going super fast and you have a seizure, heart attack, or something like that, then you could die. But if the car is autonomous, it can take you to a hospital. In fact, this has actually happened many times with Tesla cars.

Giga Berlin Memories and the Path to Massive Expansion

André Thierig: Six years ago we broke ground and four years ago we started production. What are your greatest memories of Giga Berlin and the people here?

Elon Musk: First of all, I would like to say thank you very much to everyone who helped build Giga Berlin. Thank you, André, and thank you to the whole team. We have built an amazing factory in a very short period of time and reached high-volume production with good quality and good cost control. I am very proud of Giga Berlin and all the people in it.

It’s cool! I like the art too, and that people have some fun!

Graffiti Art at Tesla Giga Berlin

Elon Musk: Coming to work should be something you look forward to. You come to work with people you enjoy working with, and you are doing useful things—you’re making things. I have a lot of respect for makers. Like, you actually make something; you build something useful that people enjoy. I’m a big fan of makers. There are a lot of people who—they do not make things, and I don’t know—they don’t make things or they don’t provide useful services. Whereas, I have huge respect for people who make things and provide useful services. It’s an honest day’s work.

André Thierig: If you have a vision for Giga Berlin, what would it be? And what would have to happen for it to come true?

Elon Musk: Ideally, we would significantly expand production at Giga Berlin. We would do high-volume production of battery cells, probably also the cathode, the anode, and lithium. We would become vertically integrated and produce things like the Cybercab or Optimus and other products that Tesla will develop. The exciting vision for the future of Giga Berlin is massively expanding it to do many more projects.

André Thierig: Do you have any advice for the team at Giga Berlin to work toward that vision?

Elon Musk: Things certainly get harder if there are outside organizations pushing Tesla in the wrong direction. If outside organizations make things very difficult in Giga Berlin, it is difficult to say that we would expand. We are not going to shut down the factory, but we are not going to expand it either, realistically.

Employee Q&A and Closing Advice

Employee: Which is your favorite factory?

Elon Musk: A favorite factory is like saying what is your favorite child. I love factories. I think a lot of people these days, they don’t love factories, or they haven’t been to a factory, whereas I walk the line in every factory and I’m a big fan of factories. I love them! Haha!

André Thierig: It’s a great place to be!

Elon Musk: Yeah. It’s where you make things that have good utility; people love the product. You’re building a product people love, and that’s great!

Giga Berlin is an awesome factory. The vibe is cool; to walk around is cool. It’s very clean and quite beautiful inside and outside. People seem quite happy. We are making cars and soon battery cells and hopefully many more things. It is one of the coolest factories in the world, really!

Employee: Which is the next product we will be building here in Giga Berlin?

Elon Musk: There are a lot of exciting possibilities. We have started spooling up production of the battery cell and we will be expanding production of the Model Y, especially as we get approval for supervised full self-driving. From the next major product standpoint, most likely the Tesla Cybercab. There are also possibilities of Tesla Optimus and the Tesla Semi heavy truck. Like, Tesla has a lot of products coming out, so there’s a lot of potential.

If things go well, we would expand Giga Berlin to whatever the most that we could. Assuming that the authorities are supportive, and the people are supportive, then we would expand to probably make it the biggest factory complex in Europe.

Employee: When do you realistically think we can have Optimus in the Gigafactories so we do not have to worry about ergonomics?

Elon Musk: Well, we have to be really careful about that one. I don’t want people to be worried about their jobs, you know. So, the honest answer for AI and robotics is: long-term, working will be optional. Long-term—which is 10 years from now or less—if you want to work, you can. It will be like growing vegetables in your garden, or you can get them from the store. It’s optional to grow vegetables in your garden, but some people still like to do it. It’s extra work to grow your own vegetables, but people enjoy the process. That’s going to be how work is in the future. It will be like: “You can work if you want to.”

Employee: How can we make sure that the adoption of new technologies like Optimus reach countries in the third world?

Elon Musk: First we have to succeed in making a useful robot. This is a hard thing to solve. Nobody has solved making a truly useful humanoid robot. So you have to make it useful, then you have to scale production. And its an entirely new supply chain. With Optimus we’ve had to design the whole robot from physics first principles. We’re designing every motor, every gear. The hands are extremely difficult to design. A properly dexterous robot hand is very difficult. One of the hardest things to engineer, and then we can scale production. At first Optimus will do small tasks, and then it will get gradually more sophisticated.

I think, eventually, Optimus could do medical work like surgery and everyone in the world would get better medical care than anyone receives today, from a human.

André Thierig: What advice would you give young people for life?

Elon Musk: Be on the side of optimism. It is better to be optimistic and wrong than pessimistic and right. Your quality of life will be much better. I would urge people to be excited about the future. I am excited about the future! I am confident the future will not be boring. Let me put it that way: it’s going to be very interesting. I think it is most likely to be great!

In terms of general advice, I guess I’d invite people to learn as much as possible, read a lot of books, try a lot of things, and find a job you can enjoy. I guess—enjoy life, but working is also a part of enjoying life. I think if people derive satisfaction from building things, then Tesla is an awesome place to be because we build things! We make useful products, and that’s a great thing.

André Thierig: What is the most inspiring moment in your life?

Elon Musk: You know, I guess when my kids were born, that would be the most inspiring moment of my life. Um, you know, in terms of work stuff, I guess it’s when we had the first production Roadster at Tesla. On the rocket side, first time getting to orbit, getting the rocket to come back and land was pretty cool. Self-driving technology has been pretty inspiring too. I mean, the first time somebody experiences self-driving, where they are just sitting there and the car takes them all the way from their home to their work, and parks, it’s mind-blowing!

André Thierig: Yes! It is. I am using it all the time when I am in the US.

Elon Musk: It’s like magic!

André Thierig: Thank you so much for your time.

Elon Musk: Once again to the people of Giga Berlin, Dankeschön.

German Military

Tesla Recruits 50 Veteran Soldiers for Jobs at Giga Berlin

Tesla helps Veterans from both the US and German Military in the important transition from military to fulfilling and productive civilian life.
Tesla helps Veterans from both the US and German Military in the important transition from military to fulfilling and productive civilian life.

Tesla has long welcomed US Military Veterans through its Veterans Career Program. Tesla is also opening its doors to veterans from the German Bundeswehr, the unified armed forces of Germany. Tesla aims to provide them with rewarding career opportunities at Giga Berlin (Gigafactory Grünheide). This initiative marks a significant step towards integrating German military personnel into the civilian workforce after their service ends.

Military Transition Program at Tesla

  • Initiated in November 2022

For several months now, Tesla has been actively reaching out to Bundeswehr members in Germany, offering them job opportunities at the Gigafactory Grünheide once their military service concludes. This transition program, initiated in November 2022, is set to transform the lives of veterans as they embark on a new journey with Tesla.

Now, the first group of veteran soldiers is ready for their exciting career transition through a special program initiated by Tesla. A spokesperson for Tesla confirmed that the first batch of 20 participants has commenced their roles at Tesla.

According to Tesla, approximately 50 military personnel are currently in the active recruitment process. This ambitious initiative has already reached “several hundred soldiers” through a job entry program specifically tailored for military personnel. Some of these individuals are still in active service and are considering Tesla as a potential employer once their service commitments conclude, as reported by the company’s spokesperson.

Skills and Opportunities for Bundeswehr Veterans

  • Special skills and mindset
  • Recruitment and training details

Tesla recognizes and values the “special skills and mindset” Bundeswehr members are known for. As part of the program, the first wave of participants will assume roles in key areas such as logistics, maintenance, and security. This program announcement emphasizes the qualities that Tesla seeks in applicants, including structured work habits, teamwork abilities, independence in work, and proficiency in both German and English.

Tesla has partnered with the Bundeswehr’s career development service (BfD) to launch the Military Transition Program. As part of this collaboration, soldier applicant days are organized at the Gigafactory Grünheide every month. Additionally, Tesla actively participates in Bundeswehr job fairs held across Germany, further promoting this unique employment opportunity to veterans.

Tesla’s Expanding Workforce in Gigafactory Grünheide

  • Doubling the current 11,000 employees
  • Job opportunities and growth plans

Presently, Tesla employs approximately 11,000 individuals at its Brandenburg factory. However, with ambitious expansion plans for the Giga Berlin, Tesla plans to double its workforce. This remarkable and fast growth underscores Tesla’s commitment to accelerating the transition to sustainable energy and to all-electric vehicles.

As part of this expansion, Tesla is advertising several hundred positions, offering diverse career opportunities to individuals with a wide range of skills and experiences. Recent job postings include positions such as paramedics, gardeners, and roofers, highlighting the diverse range of roles available within the Gigafactory.

Certainly, here’s a more streamlined version:

In Texas, Tesla collaborates with the Texas Veterans Leadership Program (TVLP).

Last year, Tesla was commended for hiring Transitioning Service Members (TSMs) in the “Report on the Transition from Military Service to Employment” by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Tesla’s robust Veterans Program is ongoing, and provides veterans with meaningful career opportunities, acknowledging their valuable skills and experiences.

In March 2022, Tesla’s hiring managers engaged with many Transitioning Service Members (TSMs) and military spouses, underlining the company’s commitment to veterans at Fort Hood Army base near Killeen, Texas.

Tesla proudly welcomes Transitioning Service Members into its workforce, reaffirming its dedication to supporting veterans.

My Thoughts

Tesla’s commitment to veterans, both in Germany and the United States, is evident through initiatives like the Military Transition Program and the Texas Veterans Leadership Program. These programs are so important because they bridge the gap between military service and civilian employment, providing veterans with life changing opportunities. Whether it’s recruiting Bundeswehr members for roles in Germany or collaborating with Texas veterans, Tesla is dedicated to reaching out to veterans to provide them with amazing job opportunities. Tesla’s Veterans Program honors the skills and experiences veterans uniquely have.

Gigafactory Texas Cyber Rodeo

Cyber Rodeo was an extravagant party and very well done. It took place at Tesla Giga Texas here in Austin and some of the highlights were a chance to walk through the factory’s general assembly line, ask employees questions and get up close to the IDRA Giga presses.

The entire gigafactory was transformed into a magical light show with live music on different stages and a chance to see all of Tesla’s vehicles. Elon Musk and Franz von Holzhausen appeared on stage and the first 4680 Model Y was delivered. A drone show and fireworks display featured the famous dogecoin Shiba Inu to hundreds of cheering spectators. I was fortunate to go and was one of the last to leave!

Cyber Roundup 2022 Tesla Annual Shareholder’s Meeting

The Cyber Roundup was Tesla’s kind way of saying thanks to you as a retail TSLA shareholder. This year’s meeting was the largest in-person meeting ever and it provided an opportunity to see products up close, take a factory tour, and even speak with Elon Musk.

Tesla in Europe is a Gemstone

Welcome back to my blog. This past week, Tesla started delivering the first Model Ys following the opening of Giga Berlin-Brandenburg.

The new German-made Model Y has been handed over to customers in Germany as well as in Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands, and Italy.  Soon customers all over Europe will celebrate receiving their Model Ys.

Elon Musk compares Giga Berlin to a gemstone for Germany, Europe and the world

These were Elon Musk’s first words when he addressed guests at the Delivery Day event on March 22, 2022.

“And to the community, Tesla will make sure that this is a gem — a gemstone for the area, for Germany, for Europe, and for the world. Every vehicle that we make will be another step in the direction of a sustainable energy future. We will also make battery storage. So this is going to be very important for storing renewable energy — so, for solar and wind. Because it’s intermittent, it needs to be stored, but we’re extremely confident that the world will transition to a sustainable energy future with the combination of solar, plus battery storage, and electric vehicles.”

Elon Musk

German Model Y is High Quality

Alex Voigt, a Munich-based blogger, engineer, and BEV Enthusiast was invited by Tesla to attend Giga Berlin Delivery Day. Alex has spent significant time examining vehicle build quality from Teslas built in California, Shanghai, and now, Berlin. Alex says,

“What I can say is the cars from Giga Berlin have the best quality, obviously they’ve been selecting them carefully so there is no doubt about it, not every car made it, but if you look at the panel gaps and the paint and all the details, it’s by a large margin the best quality I’ve seen so far from Tesla.

I know the critical areas for instance at the charging port but also other places where usually you have fit and finish problems, regardless if you go inside or outside I definitely couldn’t find any flaws.”

Alex and other people I spoke with observed that it appears Tesla has chosen black paint, the most difficult color to paint a car because if you are excellent at painting black, you can be good at about any color.  I asked my friend Johnna Crider, writer for Clean Technica, for her opinion on the video that Alex created. She compared the Model Y in the sunlight to the gemstone black obsidian. Johnna custom wraps gemstones. Getting Stoned is her online store. Here is the video she watched, see what you think,

Link to video on twitter by Alex Voigt

Elon Musk makes it clear that he considers Giga Berlin to be a gemstone for the world.  The analogy is significant.  Gemstones are something that is both sought after and protected by humans.  Here’s what Johnna Crider had to say about this in her article for Clean Technica,

When we think of something precious, we often compare that thought to rare gems, minerals, or something of high value.

And what is more valuable than a fully sustainable future, a goal that Tesla and its employees globally, including Elon Musk, seem to be passionately working toward?

This is worth more than any beryl, corundum, carbon (diamond or rare shungite), or natural Moissoanite from a meteorite. We can’t enjoy these gems or life if we are not here — or if we don’t have a planet with the capabilities of supporting human life. Right now we have a planet, but our dependence on fossil fuels is wreaking havoc on our environment.

And I’m not naive to think that mining the actual gems and minerals doesn’t have an effect. In the end, people with good hearts and who passionately care about our world do what we can to help as well as what we can to offset our own negative impacts.

My feeling is that our world needs Tesla in order to make the transition to sustainable energy as fast as possible. Tesla makes cars that are better than all other cars, regardless if they are electric or not.

Other vehicle manufacturers are acutely aware they will need to mass-produce cars as good as Tesla in order to survive.

The transition to all-electric vehicles is imminent, and that’s worth celebrating.

Elon Musk Speaks on Giga Berlin Delivery Day

“Tesla will make sure that this is a gem, a gemstone for the area, for Germany, for Europe, and for the world” – Elon Musk [photo courtesy Tesla Welt Podcast]

Welcome back to my blog, I hope you’ll enjoy this week‘s post. I am posting part of Elon Musk‘s speech given on March 22, 2022 at Giga Berlin Brandenburg. The reason I am focusing on his speech in this blog post is that I believe it is a historically significant speech.  It contains a roadmap for the future of our world as we transition away from fossil fuels and into a clean energy future, involving solar, wind, and battery storage and electric vehicles.

Elon’s speech inspires us to look towards a more positive future. So grab a warm blanket, a good beverage, and enjoy!

Thank you for your hard work which has led to this great day, and it was amazing to see how excited the customers were to receive their cars. It was just super good vibes and it bided very well for the future of Giga Berlin Brandenburg.

I think it’s worth remembering that every car that we make is a step in the direction of a sustainable future. The thing about this factory and the cars that we make is that it gives people hope about the future and it’s like it’s very important to have reasons to be excited about the future. Often people are depressed or sad about the future because they think it won’t be good but what we’re doing here is with every car we make, with every battery we make, we’re making the future better. So what you are doing really matters, it makes a difference.

“I’m sort of working on the Master Plan Part 3”

Elon Musk
I’m sort of working on the Master Plan Part 3. Yes, it’s going to be good. But a huge part of that is scaling to high volume. So in order for us to really affect the world in a positive way- because we get a lot of press, we get a lot of attention- but say how many vehicles have we made as a percentage of total vehicles in the world? Because there are 2 billion vehicles in the world. Well, so far, we’re actually well below 1% and not even 1/2 a percent. So, it’s essential for us to really affect the future in a positive way. We have to make a lot of cars. It’s the only way. So that’s why we call it a Gigafactory, it’s very big.

We’re starting off with the Model Y and we’re going to do a number of exciting additional vehicles here. So I think this overall is going to be a center of excellence for sustainable energy in general, and it’s really going to help the world. I look forward to doing it with you and once again, thanks for everything!

“At Tesla, we really try to do the right thing. We want to be a company that you can believe in, in your heart and soul.”

Elon Musk
In addition to the work that we do here, we also inspire and encourage the rest of the industry to go towards electrification. I think it’s fair to say that without Tesla, without the work that the Tesla team has done, the rest of the industry would not be moving so quickly towards electrification. That’s also why we open-sourced our patents. We have made our patents freely available to the other car makers, because it was the right thing to do. No other company has done that far as I know. At Tesla, we really try to do the right thing. We want to be a company that you can believe in, in your heart and soul. In order to do that, we must be a company that does the right thing.

In response to a question about when Tesla would go to South America, and maybe some other markets, Elon stated,

We definitely want to go to the world, the challenge we have right now- it’s a high-class problem - the orders we have are well in excess of our production, so sometimes people will say, “why aren’t you in all these other markets and why don’t you make all these other different versions of the product like different cars like where is the Tesla semi-truck and the Cybertruck and the Roadster?” The challenge we have is that our orders far exceed our production, so, you know… ‘ A high-class problem.’ But we need to have our production get to the point where it exceeds our current orders and then it makes sense to expand to additional markets and to have additional products. Because, if we add complexity and we don’t add production volume, then we’ve not actually done anything more.

The good is a function of how many vehicles we are able to make. As we are able to ramp up production and satisfy demand in our existing markets, then we will expand to other markets and we will also add additional products. Last year there were a lot of supply chain challenges with chips, everyone knows about the chip shortage. This year there are still some chip shortages. Next year, I think will be a challenge with total battery production. Certainly, if you start going, like 2 to 3 years out, it’s all about how many gigawatt-hours of battery are produced. That will be the limiting factor.

And then going even further down into the supply chain, what is the right battery materials that are being mined and refined? And obviously, you want to do that in an environmentally sensitive way. In the grand scheme of things is “how many terawatt hours of battery can be produced per year.” Our rough calculation is that about 300 TWHR is needed to transition the world to a sustainable energy economy. This is a lot of batteries basically. So we want to try to do as much of that as possible. I think we are doing a pretty good job, we are growing by 70% to 80% per year on average and maybe even faster than that in the future. So that is, I think, the answer to ‘why not more markets, and why not more products?’

When asked what he was most proud of, Elon responded,

I am most proud of the amazing work done by the Tesla team, to scale at the rate that we are scaling and make compelling products that people love. You know, you think about, how many products can you buy that you really love? It’s so few, you know, and it would be great if people made more products that you love.

“At Tesla, we really focus on making products that people love.”

Elon Musk
And Tesla is a rare company that actually makes products you love. It brings you joy every day, that’s great. If you look at our rate of growth, Tesla is the fastest-growing company in history that makes a large manufactured product. So the next fastest was the Ford Model T and that was 100 years ago and we are actually growing faster than the Ford Model T, which is crazy!

Elon Musk explains Giga Berlin Model Y will be offered in a deep complex red and liquid silver

With respect to colors, which colors will be available from this factory?

Colors are always a challenge because when you think about You do not only need to manufacture it but you need to service it and fix it for like 20 years. You have to think about what are we going to put the service team through? You know, managing all these colors? So we have to be careful with a total number of colors but, we obviously are going to make some special colors here because - and it’s more than just color itself but it’s the layers of paint to get the dimensionality - we’re going to make a really special red, which I think a lot of people have seen. It’s like 13 layers of paint. The layers give you dimensionality. It makes the color look deep and complex. and then we will also have silver. It will have maybe eight layers, and it’s going to be really special. Like kind of liquid silver and a deep red. A deep complex red. In a few months, we will make this special deep dark red and quicksilver.

I think it will be the best paint on any production car that is not made for a show or something like that. And you have to design the paint job especially for 13 steps.

Elon answered questions about battery composition, as well as when FSD beta might come to Europe,

I think will be ready to show it to regulators in the European Union, maybe in two or three months. But then we have got to do quite a lot of work for all of the special use cases in Europe. As you know, the roads vary quite a lot by country. The road rules, and the way the lines are painted, are different. And then you have to recognize all the different languages. It’s quite difficult to do full self-driving in Europe. Much more complex than say, the USA or Canada. There are a lot of little tricky things, the rules are not the same. But I think, probably, we can start doing FSDbeta maybe later this year in Europe. Depending on regulatory approval. Things are different in the USA, in the USA, things are legal by default. In Europe, they are illegal by default.
So, we have to get approval beforehand, whereas in the USA, you can do it on your own cognizance, more or less.

But as for what the next target is, Elon responded

I guess the next target is, to really scale production this year, and try to make as many cars as we can. We want to complete the development of the Cybertruck and be ready for production next year. Hopefully, have enough battery pack capability to start the Tesla semi-truck. Hopefully, we may complete the engineering of the new roadster, and then there are some future products that are also pretty important. There’s also stationary storage, new versions of the Tesla solar roof and Powerwall 3. There are a lot of things. So we have a very exciting product pipeline.

When asked what makes him happy, Elon responded with,

“It makes me happy to see you guys happy“

Elon Musk

There was a question from the audience was about production capacity and Elon responded,

Twenty million cars in 10 years. And that would be a good number because there are 2 billion cars and trucks in the world that are in active use. So 20 million would be one percent of the global fleet per year.

Waving goodbye, Elon said,

“Thanks again guys, love you.”

Elon Musk

This was my eleventh blog post and one of my favorite.  I am extremely thankful that Tesla Giga Berlin-Brandenburg is open and producing wonderful electric vehicles.  Each vehicle will bring happiness and joy to its owners.  I have owned a Tesla since December 2019, and I love driving it around Austin.  I went to see Gigafactory Texas a few days ago, and I am very excited about the future of electric vehicles made in Texas.  I hope to learn more about both Gigafactories over time. I know that you also share this enthusiasm with me and many others.  We are truly living in exciting times.

TESLA: MADE IN TEXAS

Giga Texas is built with an iconic Cybertruck look and is at once powerfully productive. Giga Texas’ attention to detail is evident the minute you see it for the first time. I see Tesla as wanting to celebrate engineering production at scale, not just churn out cars from a boring cement box. No one EXPECTS a vehicle factory to be aesthetically pleasing. Then again, when people ride in a Tesla it is also an unexpectedly pleasurable experience.

Cruising past Giga Texas at night you see the suspended Model Y soaring high amongst perfectly aligned and symmetrical steel beams, lighting, and conduits.

The flying Austin Model Y is delightful and evokes Elon Musk’s sense of irony

Consider that Giga Texas is perfectly aligned true North, a mile long, and blends in with the Texas landscape. The lines of the Gigafactory also resemble the lines of the Cybertruck.  The front of the factory incorporates an abstract T for Tesla.  The solar panels on the roof will spell out TESLA for the enjoyment of all who fly over Austin.

It is a celebration to drive past the Gigafactory as an observer.  People smile when they see this large structure with angular glass. Giga Texas is designed so that you are invited to look inside, especially at night. I take you there in the video below.

This connection is taken so seriously that Elon Musk insisted Giga Texas will one day be open to the public, not closed and only for Tesla.

“It’s right on the Colorado River,
so there’s actually going to be a boardwalk where there’ll be a hiking and biking trail.
It’s going to basically be an ecological paradise,
birds in the trees, butterflies, fish in the stream,
and they will be open to the public as well.
So not closed and only Tesla.”

Giga Berlin Celebrates German Precision and Local Art

It is notable that Giga Texas and Giga Berlin have both been designed to showcase incredible beauty on the outside while being a manufacturing powerhouse on the inside.

German Model Y is highly acclaimed for its luxury excellence. The factory also features local graffiti art, as seen below. This imaginative approach is appreciated because it creates an important connection with local talent.

Here’s why I created this blog. In January 2022, I was frustrated over spending valuable energy on trivial matters. My friend Johnna Crider, suggested to start painting or start a blog. I did both (you can see my Giga Texas painting here). We tossed around different names. Johnna came up with “What’s Up Tesla.” I rented shared office space in order to work uninterrupted. I am thoroughly enjoying expressing creative energy in support of Tesla and Elon Musk in this way.
