Join me for a drive in the infamous Austin heat. It is hot and windy out and we are heading to a rather dry Lake Travis. The hairpin turns would scare anybody who is driving manually. But we are not driving manually. The vehicle is running on Tesla’s amazing FSD beta software.

While safety is number 1 for Tesla, having fun is a close second! This drive is short ( only 3:37 minutes long) and very fun!

I see the future in automated control of a car. As I compare the skills of people who are now driving to myself and others who learned on roads that are more dangerous than now, I realize it isn’t just more traffic that is the main factor in accidents but poor judgment and skills.

       Cars that had no power assist with anything required to control a car. we had far more feel of a road. we knew the response of a car and the clearance we needed to avoid any collisions. We still have accidents because of poor driving skills and poor judgment. 

    I also see the advantage and more control given to the government to "save lives". the advantage would be a car that would operate at the control it needed under that circumstance. What would be needed? Data! input to calculate what was needed for safe navigation. 

         With the hairpin turns, having a map embedded in memory would provide much more than just direction. Warning beacons would transmit not just the position of the car on the road, but also road conditions, including wet conditions or snow that would offer steering or stopping problems. Obstructions from cars and trucks that were forced to slow or stop transmitting their signal would prevent collisions.


        All this data would indeed save lives and prevent damage to property. Now the downside and what I see that would or will remove our rights. Remember the seat belts that gov. Said would save lives? Indeed, they have. 

     The path this safety device offered as an "option" was quickly required in all cars. A requirement that insurance companies pushed the government to require so it would cut down costs. government complied and now required everyone to use the belts. 

      Don't worry because we won't stop you from not using your belts. Well, even that changed quickly when money was to be had for fines. Then with citations that passed three, we had the insurance companies hike your rates up. We have more, but both time and space are limited. 

                  Lose your license? You can't buy a car in many states. Without a license, you can't board an airplane. Your travel is restricted. We must look closely at both sides. It isn't the safety that is always good, but the government uses the "crisis" it creates to expand its power and control. 

               The government never lets the chance for more power pass without grabbing onto it. Our problems come as these "regulations" are coming faster than we can follow them. The new artificial intelligence that is offered today as a safety option will be a government requirement tomorrow. 

        A requirement that will give gov. total control over your car, thus your ability for free travel at the time you choose. Am I wrong? We shall see. ------ I, Grampa
