Tesla FSD Beta v11.4.9 is cautious around train tracks to a fault. Here in Austin, Texas, people do not stop or slow for train tracks unless the guard rails are lit up and down or going down. In this video, we’ll step out of the Tesla together and observe how other drivers approach the train tracks.
Safety is good, so is going with the traffic flow
I do not have the answer to solving the Tesla’s slowdown problem around both crosswalks and train tracks.
As a driver who often switches from my own driving in human-pilot to going back into FSD beta many times in every drive I take, I simply override the autonomy. I do this by either speeding up the car by pressing on the gas peddle (accelerator) or by disengaging the FSD beta and taking over completely. In any case, the only time I let FSD beta proceed at the snail’s pace that it does, is when I am all alone on the road.
I think you will delight in this podcast. One day, when Tesla solves autonomy, we’ll look back to today (February 8, 2024) and think, “Wow, those were the good old days, haha!”

As a man who has been driving both tractor and car on the road from ten years old I have seen some drivers that dont belong on the road. At 80 and response time slowing with each passing day I choose my driving time carefully so I present a lesser danger to others. Many believe they own the road. intending to take their share despite who gets in the way. Both rude and unskilled push their way forward as if they have but minutes to live. This is true for many. sadly they take too many victims with them in their final trip. While I dont think that electric cars and trucks will solve Americas or the worlds problems on climate change, it could solve many of the problems that come with people that are poorly trained and refuse to leave for a destination so they have enough time they can alter a route to arrive on time and safely. Having cars that are preprogrammed would provide safety for others. The down side is one that many will not see. We will give up yet another freedom for a small price of safety. controlling our ability to choose the way we can travel is a right. having cars that are controlled by a program provides government total control. The electric car wont just control the speed it travels but its destination. it will be scheduled to arrive and pick you up. if you are not ready it wont wait. you wont own a car anymore your choice is no longer yours. I have been on the road for 70 years. owned many cars and driven enough miles that could take me around the world. All on my time and choice of car and direction. I see the electric car like the seat belts. Introduced to provide extra safety for you, (if you choose) government regulating car companies to install them. Soon we saw that they required you to use them but not enforced. Soon we saw that we would receive a citation if we didn’t use them but they wouldn’t stop us just for not using them. Next they could stop us for not using them. government control in small steps in the name of safety. why should electric cars be any different? They wont. The difference will be that they wont even tell us that they have control. it wont just be the speed it will travel, or even who you must travel with. Government will now record your every move. know where you are at any given moment. the control will extend beyond and into your home, again for your security and protection. at first it will be for the general living areas. like the seat belts will expand to every part of your home. Yes I am just a crazy old man. someone that has seen our government take control of our lives. it will happen, but I am sure they will get rid of me as no longer productive burden on society.
